1. I, Robot (2004)
The feature film with Will Smith in the leading role was based on the works of Isaac Asimov about positronic robots. The year is 2035, and robots have become familiar household helpers. However, not all people have a positive attitude; some even see them as a threat. Among them is police detective Del Spooner, who investigates the death of his friend Dr. Alfred Lanning. The latter worked as a designer at the U.S. Robotics Corporation. Del rejects the suicide version, especially when he founds and interrogates an NS-5 series robot Sonny, who canto violate the Second Law of Robotics. Spooner will have to figure out what’s going on.
2. Ctrl+Alt+Compete (2011)
This is a full-length documentary film that reveals different views on a business startup and its development. The movie shows five companies, five founders, and five business models. Along with the insights from seasoned industry observers and technology pioneers, the movie showcases several startup stories. See the journey from an idea to creating a product and discover how bumpy that path can be.
3. The Fifth Estate (2013)
This film, with Benedict Cumberbatch in the leading role, tells the story of the WikiLeaks portal, which published classified information and confidential archives. A sensational story that made quite a fuss at the time proves that information can be a real weapon and should be handled carefully. Despite mixed reviews, the film received high marks for the cast and performance. It is rumored that WikiLeaks editor Julian Assange has helped paint an accurate picture of what happened to «the world’s most dangerous website.»
4. The Imitation Game (2014)
This is a historical drama about the mathematician and cryptographer Alan Turing, played by Benedict Cumberbatch. During the Second World War, with a group of British specialists, he managed to break the code of the German encryption machine called «Enigma,» creating the first computer prototype. The Nazis changed the code every day, so the team had only 18 hours a day to solve the code. The film is based on the events described in Andrew Hodges’ book «Alan Turing: The Enigma.» It is believed that thanks to Turing, victory was achieved two years earlier, and millions of lives were saved.
5. A Hologram for the King (2016)
The hero of this dramedy film Alan Clay, played by Tom Hanks, is a representative of an IT company. He has an important task to sign a big contract with the King of Saudi Arabia. To do this, he must successfully present an innovative development – the possibility of remote communication via a hologram. He takes on the challenge, in particular, to solve his financial problems, but everything goes wrong from the beginning. During his stay in Saudi Arabia, a series of unusual events occur with Alan, pushing him to rethink his life.
6. Ready Player One (2018)
This adventure film, directed by Steven Spielberg, is based on Ernest Cline’s novel of the same name. The story unfolds in the virtual simulation world called OASIS, which becomes a way to escape crowded reality for the Earth dwellers. The kicker is that there is a golden Easter egg hidden in the OASIS, and the player who obtains it, will receive ownership of the whole VR realm. A teenager orphan Wade Watts’ under his avatar, Parzival, takes part in a race. With his friend Aech and the streamer Art3mis, they solve puzzles to overcome obstacles. Will they manage to find the golden egg?
7. Free Guy (2021)
If you enjoy playing computer games, this sci-fi comedy action will most likely appeal to you. The main character, played by Ryan Reynolds, is named Guy. He lives in Free City and works in a bank. No matter what is happening around him, he continues to perform monotonous actions, not realizing that he is actually an NPC (non-player character) in a multiplayer video game. But one day, he falls in love with a player girl, which changes everything.
