The new reality in which Ukrainian and foreign IT companies found themselves led to choosing a hybrid work format. It involves a remote and office work combination for the business processes and communication between team members.
No doubt that employees do not need to go to the office every day to work effectively. However, it requires specific changes and readiness for their implementation from the business.
In particular, companies such as Google, Facebook, Grammarly, etc., back in 2021 announced that they plan to move their teams to a flexible work schedule. In keeping with it employees can go to the office as they wish and only 2-3 days a week.

What do people say about the hybrid work format?
According to Microsoft’s Work Trend Index 2022 study, the last two years of experience have changed our priorities, identity, and worldview. It has crystal clearly shown what is fundamental. Values such as health, family, time, and purpose came first.
31,000 people from 31 countries participated in the survey.
- 47% of respondents noted that they are more likely to prefer family and personal life over work than before the pandemic.
- 53% said they prioritize their health and well-being more than work.
So now the equation of what people want from work looks different and presents a new challenge for employers. Perks like an excellent office and free cookies mean less to candidates than they once did.
However, companies that offer enhanced well-being opportunities to their employees are emerging. Among new perks are additional days off, a flexible schedule, a subscription to a sports club.
The world increasingly moves to hybrid work. Nowadays, the most significant opportunity for business leaders is to rethink the office’s role. It is time to clarify why, when, and how often teams should meet in person.
- A third of hybrid employees, or 38%, say their biggest challenge is knowing when and why to come to the office.
- However, only 28% of companies have entered into team agreements to define the new norms clearly.
How companies transition into digital space
A feature of cooperation in hybrid and remote formats is complete digitization and automation. The number of software, programs, add-ons, and apps installed on a computer or laptop is increasing. Team meetings happen in Zoom or Google Meet. Chatbots facilitate the HR routine.
Employees learn company news through corporate portals and channels, as well as pages on social media. Documents and essential information transfer via drives and cloud services, while time trackers record work hours. Education and training take place online and during live conferences.
Pros and cons of hybrid format
Among the positives of the hybrid work format:
- the ability to work from anywhere in the world and hire specialists from any country;
- flexible work schedule, which increases motivation and productivity and avoids procrastination and burnout;
- increased free time for yourself and your family, as there is no need to commute;
- reduced commute costs for employees and overheads for companies.
But there are also disadvantages of a hybrid or remote schedule:
- lack of meetings and communication in person, crucial for building stronger ties within the team;
- the need to strengthen discipline and self-organization for employees in order not to lose efficiency;
- lacking a dedicated working space for workers who have cramped living conditions;
- difficulty in conducting corporate holidays and team building.
